How will I contribute to improving Indigenous health as a qualified medical practitioner or health worker?
My name is Dylan Read, I am a father of two daughters and Medicine has always been a goal to gain entry into and this year I have been lucky enough to receive a first round offer. My interest in Bachelor of Medicine/surgery degree comes from working in a hospital for nearly 3 years while being employed with SA health in administration and speaking to my doctors overtime and understanding the hospital systwm works. I have just transferred from Bachelor of Paramedic Science degree after gaining a high GPA and successfully passing the medical panel interview.
I have always had a great passion for the health care industry and becoming a doctor was always a dream. I am extremely driven to be successful int he degree as I would like to be a great example to other Indigenous people and my children. My family are originally from NSW were we are a part of the Wiradjuri Mob. We keep in constant contact with our family back in NSW and I hope to be able one day to go back there and educate those living there into a healthier lifestyle.
Overall in completion of my medical degree I am hoping to gain access into a rural General Practitioner position where I can work in rural Aboriginal communities and make an impact on those that need it most and continue to educate different communities into taking better care of their health and well-being.
