How will I contribute to improving Indigenous health as a qualified medical practitioner or health worker?
By training as an MD, I hope to be able to gain the knowledge and skills to tackle public health issues present in society today, with the treatment and management of diabetes being something I am very passionate about. As well this, I hope to research the biomechanics behind chronic disorders such as diabetes so that I can aid in improving the management of these conditions.
Once I have graduated as a Medical doctor I hope to use my medical training to give back, by working in remote Indigenous communities like my own, and gain as much experience as possible. I want to be knowledgeable in medical diagnosis and treatment, but also actively involved in implementing change in a range of socioeconomic areas and the individual health challenges these areas face – with a particular focus on the healthcare experience as a whole form Indigenous people. I want to use this time to develop a solid foundation before applying for an Endocrinology fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
My future career goals are enormous, as I am passionate about assisting with or leading research on how to improve the management of endocrine disorders or to potentially cure them.
