Student Profile
My name is Sarah Browne and I am a proud Larrakia and Wulna women. My family is from Garramilla (the Darwin region). I’m currently studying a Bachelor in Paramedicine at Flinders University. I have always had a passion for helping others and a strong desire to make a difference in the community, just like my mother and Father. I’m excited to learn over the next few years, new skills, critical thinking and what my limits are as I go through this intensive degree.
I’m a very compassionate person and believe being a good role model for my three daughters will help them face any challenges in their lives by modelling my resilient personality traits, education, life experiences and determination to succeed. I believe I can contribute to improving Indigenous Health as a qualified Paramedic.
Providing holistic family care, cultural knowledge, contributing to workshops, forums and policies, I will be able to assist others in understanding my people. The most important thing, and close to my heart is that I will be a great source of support & advocacy for my community members and their families that I will be assisting as a Paramedic.
In my downtime I contribute to the sense of community at Wiltja Boarding School while working as a Youth Worker and support first nations, students and children in my care. I enjoy putting the rods in the water for an afternoon of fishing, keeping fit & active at the gym and heading back to country for a well-deserved break from my busy schedule.
I also work as a carer in a community agency which is what sparked my interest in pursuing a job in Health. I hold a Diploma in Enrolled Nursing and a certificate 3 in Health Services. My previous career before returning into a role of health was a Qantas Flight Attendant, where I worked for 11 years travelling all over the world domestically and internationally.
I developed my people skills through daily interactions with passengers from diverse backgrounds. This role taught me my ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations, while ensuring safety of passengers & crew. I excelled at building rapport quickly, managing different conflicts with empathy and understanding. Providing these skills under pressure have become second nature, allowing me to adapt quickly and efficiently to new environments and to work together within a team.
I’m excited for this opportunity but also grateful that Australian Rotary Health & SA Health are providing me with a chance to bring my experience and enthusiasm to a new challenge.
